There is much to be said about the salon and spa industry being much like life and going full circle. Our story starts before us, with Bobby and Buffy Funk, the owners of the Great Lengths Salon in Spring House, setting the foundation for a long-lasting legacy. This is where Kim and Kevin Serratore were stylists, setting the foundation for their practice before leaving in 1983 to open Rapunzel’s Salon on Line Street in Lansdale, quickly becoming a part of the fabric of the town. Five short years later, having grown out of the space on Line Street, the pair relocated to North Broad Street, where they would spend the next three decades as Rapunzels Salon and Spa.
Dawn Funk would first come to Rapunzel’s in 1992, leaving a career in purchasing to take a risk and follow her lifelong dream of becoming a stylist. Meanwhile, Bobby Funk’s nephew, Jim, would leave behind his career to follow his dream of becoming a massage therapist in 1994 before coming to work for Rapunzel’s Salon in 1995. Less than one year later, in 1996, Jim and Dawn took another risk, and purchased the spa business from Kim and Kevin, becoming first time business owners, and working to grow the spa while Dawn grew as a stylist in the salon. The pair would spend the next decade building their clientele, developing long-lasting relationships, and preparing for the next step.
With the success of the spa, the pair would go full circle in 2005, where they would purchase the salon portion, and become the sole owners of Rapunzel’s Salon and Spa bringing the same tradition for excellence and innovation of the spa into the salon. Dawn and Jim grew the business, changed the face of professional education, and became the launch pad for countless stylists seeking to learn from the best. With each passing year it became clearer and clearer that the pair had created something special, and in January 2016 Rapunzel’s made one last move to the current location on West Point Pike, where there is space to grow and continue to serve the entire Bucks and Montgomery communities.
