Cupping Therapy at Rapunzel’s

Posted on

Massage Cupping is the combination of massage movements and negative pressure with the use of a suction device on the skin. A cup is positioned at the area to be treated and, depending on the type of cups being used; a vacuum is created within the cup to draw the skin and underlying tissue into the cup. The produced vacuum creates a suction effect that increases blood and lymphatic circulation systemically and to the local area, relaxes muscle tissue and support, draws stagnation, pathogenic factors and toxins out of the body and releases a myriad of pain causing factors.

Bruising will happen with this technique.  We will be offering this service combined with a massage session starting September 1st.  Pricing will be $75.00 per session.

Benefits of Hot Stone Massage

Posted on

Reasons to treat yourself to a Hot Stone Massage:

Muscle Relaxation: The heat from the stones helps your muscles relax, allowing the massage therapist to manipulate your deep tissues more effectively. Overly tense muscles can hinder the massage procedure, so if your muscles are extremely tight or stiff, the heated stones may provide the extra relaxation you need for the massage to be beneficial in releasing tension and easing sore muscles.

Pain Relief: While all types of massage can help relieve pain caused by tense muscles, stiff joints or injuries, a hot stone massage may provide greater relief due to the intense nature of the massage. Because the hot stones allow the massage therapist to penetrate deeper, you may find that a hot stone massage leaves you feeling physically better than a Swedish or deep-tissue massage that does not incorporate heat. It is important to let your massage therapist know if you feel that the heat from the stones is too much or that the pressure he is using is too harsh. Pain or discomfort during the massage process can cause more harm than good after the massage is over.

Improve Circulation: Typically, a massage therapist allows the heated stones to rest on trigger points in your body before beginning the actual massage. As the heat from the stones penetrates into your deeper body tissues, your blood vessels open, resulting in improved circulation. Poor circulation can lead to fatigue, which tenses the muscles, and a buildup of fluid and lactic acid in the muscles. Increased circulation delivers more oxygen to the muscles, which can help ease aches and pains.

Mental Benefits: Massage therapy can result in mental benefits as well as physical ones in many people. You may find that the relaxation afforded to you through a hot stone massage helps ease some of your mental stress and tension. A hot stone massage may also help you combat some of the symptoms of anxiety disorders and depression. While massage therapy is not a substitute for traditional medical or psychiatric care, it can be an integral part of your treatment plan.

What is Balayage?

Posted on

Balayage (ba-lie-azhe), sometimes spelled ‘balliage’ or ‘baliage,’ is the art of hair painting. The term is based on the French word for ‘sweep away,’ or ‘balayer.’

Balayage is the most exciting highlighting color technique to appear in a long time. Colorists and clients alike fall in love with the fabulous results. Color placement looks natural and organic, similar to the effortlessly random color you’d receive after a summer at the beach.

Balayage color is painted in soft brush strokes across the surface of the hair, leaving you with natural-looking swipes of color that flow from thick to thin and play off the hair’s natural movement. Even better, balayage won’t leave you with any signs of demarcation, creating a softer and more manageable grow-out.

NOT JUST FOR BLONDES

It’s important to note that balayage is definitely not just for blondes. Brunettes, redheads, even those with black hair can all take advantage of hair painting. The results will be subtle, but they’ll add the dimension that everyone craves, giving a dark brunette swirls of cinnamon or caramel, for example.

Makeup tips to keep your skin glowing after 40!

Posted on

We are often asked: how can I keep that glow to my skin after my 40th birthday. We have several recommendations that you can either try yourself or we would love to assist you at the best salon in Lansdale- Rapunzel’s!

Paying special attention to your makeup can really make a difference:
• We recommend that you update your regular makeup to mineral makeup. It will make you look fresher.
• Apply blush on the cheek bones.
• Try cream blusher if your skin is dry.
• Start using primer before applying foundation, eye makeup and lipstick; this will help the makeup last longer and helps to settle the final layer of makeup between skin creases.
• Choose softer tone pigments for eye makeup and lipstick.

There are also skin care products you can try with the guidance of a professional salon and spa expert. Here is what our experts say:
• Make a habit of regular skin care.
• Let your esthetician take a fresh look at your skin and suggest skin care products with high performance ingredients.
• Try regular facials & peels.
• Choose products with Alpha hydroxy acid, Retin A, vitamin C and peptides.
• Don’t forget to moisturizer and exfoliate your skin.

And lastly, your lifestyle can also have a lot to do with keeping that glow on your skin.
• Stay out of sun as this can dull your skin.
• If you are outside during daylight, where high SPF sun block to limit your exposure to harmful light from the Sun.
• However, if you want to have the suntanned look, get a sun kissed glow with a bronzer at your favorite salon and spa.

Beauty treatments you should not attempt at home!

Posted on

Beauty treatments you should not attempt at home may be a mystery if you’re new to the whole DIY scene. While there are lots of things you can do at home all the time to save money, there are certain procedures that are better left to the pros!

Haircuts – Unless it’s a simple bang trim, you really risk messing up your hair. No matter how tiny of a snip or how careful you think you are being, if you’re not trained then JUST DON’T.

Hair Coloring – Now I know that lots of women probably used boxed hair dye to color their own hair. While it may work for some, the honest truth is that you are doing damage to your hair. Boxed hair dye has harmful chemicals in it and if you don’t know what you’re doing, you can mess up your hair pretty badly. And while you may think you look great, on average only about 30% of women who dye their own hair actually come away looking natural and fabulous.

Brow Waxing – Brows are very easy to mess up, and not only that but if you over-pluck or over-wax, then you run the risk of having bald spots for a long time since brows don’t grow as fast as regular hair does.

Chemical Hair Treatments – Are you looking to chemically relax or straighten your hair? How about a perm? Any type of hair treatment that requires chemicals is better left to a trained stylist who knows what she is doing. Even though they make at-home kits for just about any treatment you can think of, you’re more likely to badly damage your hair, or come away looking more like Medusa and less like a beauty queen!

Trying these items at home to save money may end up costing you more money to get things fixed at the salon.  So leave it to the pros!
